This is an image of mold growth in a wall cavity from an improperly dried water event. Mold flourishes in damp, dark, warm spaces and loves to feed on the paper on the back of drywall. The color of mold is determined largely by the food it’s consuming- there’s no such thing as the dreaded “black mold”. In fact, less than 5% of the over 1.5 million identified species of mold are toxigenic or pathogenic. Most molds are allergenic, however, and can cause allergic reactions.
